Hurricane Idalia Notice THA Closed August. 29 & 30th

The Hillsborough County Emergency Management Service has placed the entire county on an alert for Tropical Storm/Hurricane Idalia.  This hurricane could potentially hit the Tampa Bay area sometime on Tuesday or Wednesday, August. 29 or 30th, 2023.  This notice indicates that tropical storm/hurricane Idaila is a definite threat to the Tampa Bay area.  We are providing this notice to you to ensure that you will take precautionary measures for your family in the event that the hurricane hits Tampa Bay.

Each resident is urged to take the following steps to provide safety for his/her family.

·        Listen for weather updates on local radio stations and on the NOAA weather radio.  Do not trust rumors and stay tuned to the latest information.

·        Organize a Disaster Supply Kit for your family.  (See list attached)'

·        Refill any family medical prescriptions.  Maintain at least a two-week supply during hurricane season.

·        Clean your yard, front porch, and patio of any flying objects, lawn furniture, potted plants, bicycles, trashcans, or anything that may become a deadly missile.

·        Fill your car's gas tank and check oil, water, and tires.  Gas pumps don't operate without electricity.

·        Get cash.  Banks and ATMs will not be in operation without electricity and very few stores will be able to accept credit cards.

Evacuation Advisory

In the event of an evacuation advisory, families living in Zones A or B will be required to evacuate immediately when notified by the Hillsborough County Emergency Management Services.  When notified to evacuate, residents must immediately take the following steps.

·        Seek to stay with a family member or friend outside of your community until it is safe to return to your apartment.

·        Go immediately to the designated shelter in your neighborhood.

·        Take your disaster supplies kit with you to the shelter.

·        Take important papers with you, including your driver's license, special medical information, insurance policies, and property inventories.

·        Let friends and relatives know where you are going,

·        Be sure to turn off all electricity, water, and gas in your apartment.

·        Secure your apartment by locking windows and doors.

Once the storm hits and winds are sustained at 39 mph or more, all emergency services are stopped and you will be left to deal with any emergencies yourself until after the storm passes and winds are less than 39 mph.  Therefore, it is important for you to pay attention to the weather advisory on the radio and act accordingly.  If you encounter any emergency before the storm, you should contact the police and fire departments at 911.
