Tampa Housing Authority Proudly Sponsors Children Cooking Class Celebrating MLK Day

Elementary school-aged children in assisted housing learn about nutrition at Meacham Urban Farm

TAMPA, Fla. - January 5, 2024 - The Tampa Housing Authority is proud to sponsor resident Chef Coco's children cooking class at Meacham Urban Farm in celebration of Martin Luther King Day. The "I Have A Dream" cooking event will host 20 elementary school kids in assisted housing, who will learn how to make waffles, and then participate in a Best Waffle Topping Competition. 

Lorena Hardwick, Chief External Affairs Officer at Feeding Tampa Bay and Commissioner at the Tampa Housing Authority, underscores the profound impact of initiatives like Chef Coco's "I Have a Dream" cooking class for kids in assisted housing. "When we combine the joy of learning with the art of cooking, we are not only nourishing young minds, but also fostering a healthier future for our community," states Hardwick. "This event underscores the community support for promoting children's nutrition education. The Tampa Housing Authority is proud to be part of this movement. We are especially thankful to our exceptional and talented resident Chef Coco," adds Hardwick.
